Ultimate deck calculator: How to make every deck fit perfectly into the box!

Reading time: 3 minutesGraphic of a card deck calculator: A stack of cards is being measured, next to options for number of cards, sleeve thickness from 0 to 120 µm, and single or double sleeve, with the total thickness displayed in mm and cm.

If you're a passionate card lover like us, you know: There's nothing more frustrating than when your new deck doesn't fit in the box or the cards get stuck in your favorite card dispenser . Whether it's trading cards , collectible cards , or playing cards , choosing the right card sleeves can make a huge difference. That's where our card deck calculator comes in!

Why a deck calculator?

Maybe you've already estimated the thickness of your deck of cards, or, in the worst case, put an entire set into unsuitable sleeves —frustrating! Our card sleeve calculator takes the guesswork out of it:

  • Number of cards – from small sets to large decks.
  • Thickness of each card – in most cases 0.315 mm.
  • Shell thickness – choose between 40 µm and 120 µm.
  • Single or double sleeve – depending on how much protection you want.

How does the deck calculator work?

It combines the card thickness with the selected sleeve thickness and adds a small 3% safety margin . This way, you can immediately see whether your deck fits perfectly in boxes or card dispensers .

The result is displayed in both millimeters and centimeters , so you can plan exactly how you will store or transport your deck.

How to measure the thickness of your playing card correctly

For the calculator to deliver truly accurate results, you need to know the thickness of a single card. This is easily done with a caliper (also called a vernier caliper)—a tool that's readily available at hardware stores or online.

Here's how to proceed:

  1. Take a single card – not the whole deck

  2. Open the caliper and carefully place the card between the measuring jaws

  3. Close the caliper until it rests gently – do not squeeze

  4. Read the value in millimeters (in most cases 0.315 mm)

To be on the safe side, repeat the process with 2-3 cards and calculate the average.

💡 Tip: If you don't have a caliper, you can also stack 10 cards on top of each other, measure the total thickness and divide by 10 - this is often even more accurate.
